Rio Info 2006

Thomas Nash, CEO of Xalles Limited, returned to Brazil in August to present at the Rio Info 2006 conference. Seven international companies were invited to speak to local IT companies. Xalles was the only company from North America to have been asked to speak on international marketing topics at this year's conference. Mr. Nash presented a seminar on International Marketing for IT Firms. Mr. Nash informed a group of Brazilian firms about what they need to consider when preparing themselves for international marketing and expansion. Factors discussed included: culture and language, business management, financial readiness, product development and packaging, international marketing, distribution, pricing, and international business intelligence. Mr. Nash also discussed the latest trends in the U.S. IT marketplace and how local firms could take advantage of those trends. During his visit, Mr. Nash also met with over 20 Brazilian companies to analyze each company's position and provide them with one-on-one advice on how to enter foreign markets.

The Xalles Music Project

The Xalles Music Team pose for photos at a press conference held at the Maritim Antoine Hotel & Spa in Malta. Although Xalles’ focus is mainly on systems implementation and business and marketing strategy for global companies, Xalles as an organization is also a world citizen. As such, Xalles and its employees are involved in a number of charitable, philanthropic, and developmental projects and initiatives. Xalles has chosen to be involved in some rather unique projects, including one in Malta, a small island country in the middle of the Mediterranean Sea.

The staff at Xalles share a tremendous love for music, and it is this interest that spawned an initiative to work with two unsigned music artists from Malta. Xalles has been applying its business management and international marketing skills to assist two artists that might not normally get the exposure and attention they deserve.

Xalles has been working with Carrie and Ozzylino, both successful artists in Malta, to help them launch their international music careers and has recently negotiated a unique arrangement with American music producer, Donovan Knowles.

Knowles has written or produced 13 Grammy Award winning songs for his work with some top names in the international music industry including, his cousin Beyonce Knowles/Destiny's Child, Christina Aguilera, Britney Spears, NSYNC, Avril Lavigne, MatchBox 20, Wu Tang Clan, Brownstone, Ginuwine, Jon B and Jagged Edge.

The two artists have been working with Knowles individually to create a 12-song album each. The albums were recorded in Malta in August and are nearly completed. The as-yet-untitled albums are expected for release later this year. Knowles and his team of experts will also direct music videos for the albums. The albums and videos will be promoted in Malta, as well as in other global markets, including Italy, Germany, UK, the USA and Canada.

“It has been a great experience working with Carrie and Ozzylino in Malta,” said Knowles. “I believe that not only is it important to the proliferation of good music in the world, but I believe that the success of these projects in various and diverse markets around the globe will open new doors to independent artists everywhere.”

During Knowles’ visit to Malta, Xalles organized several events including a press conference, as well as a seminar presented by Mr. Knowles himself, entitled, “The Industry According to Donovan Knowles”. With the support of Maritim Antoine Hotel & Spa in Malta, local artists were able to attend this seminar for free and to learn how to get in and stay in the international music industry as well as how to create and market a demo and how to create and market themselves, as artists.

About Carrie

Carrie is fresh and young with a new and very unique sound. She possesses the vocal power, song writing and piano skills of a superstar. Many jazz/funk artists have inspired and guided Carrie to create a musical style is mature, atmospheric and very creative, yet maintaining warm and deep messages circling around the theme of hope. Added flavours to her music sound mix include R&B, gospel and pop.

"Recording my debut album with Donovan has been a great experience and I am very excited about this album," comments Carrie. "My greatest inspiration has to be life itself and my music is quite literally the diary of my life, about an ordinary girl living an ordinary life and trying to encourage others to make the most of life. The theme of my debut album is hope and I would say that my music is kind of a lounge style of music with some more upbeat stuff."

About Ozzylino

Ozzylino, a well known musician in Malta who performs regularly all over the country, has a powerful, smooth and versatile voice. His music has a touch of the modern sounds of Creed, Nickelback, Green Day, Linkin Park, and Muse. His extraordinary ability to entertain captures audiences in a variety of venues. His stories and messages are told through songs that are current, but have a timeless groove that is adored by people of all ages.

"This opportunity is definitely one of a kind," states Ozzylino. "Working with an experienced, successful and well known producer like Donovan is definitely a step above the rest. It's the opportunity I have been waiting for all this time. My songs are about everyday things and everyday life and some songs are also very personal, while others are about the struggles in this world. People would call my style of music contemporary rock but I'd say it is a mix of different rock genres, but definitely in the rock group."

  CREATIVITY INFUSION

The Payment Industry

Since many of our clients have companies that are involved in B2B payments and since everyone makes personal purchases using a variety of payment methods we thought it would be interesting to identify for you some trends in payment tools and systems.

1. For consumer purchases there are a number of new technology options. While credit cards have been around for decades, there is a growing use of debit cards and stored value cards to meet the needs of people with good and poor credit. Smart card technology and various new mobile and wireless devices as well as creative Point of Sale devices also are enabling the possibilities of new payment options.

2. Most people have already likely paid for movie tickets at a kiosk, much like an ATM. Imagine kiosks getting smaller, getting more mobile and to the point where you bring your small kiosk with you in your hand, perhaps in the form of a mobile phone or PDA and the imbedded technology allows you to make payment transactions at merchant locations that you walk into.

3. Smart cards and biometric oriented technologies may provide an additional layer of fraud prevention for payments but this has not been applied to the B2B purchases as yet. You will soon be able to pay for your bus pass using a smart card. You will soon be able to pay the public parking meter with that same smart card. In some countries you can already see these things in place.

4. RFID tags, even in the form of implants will allow people to pay for goods or services simply by walking into a designated area, which can be convenient for public transportation, entertainment events and so on. Imagine the possibilities of convenience and imagine the customized products and services that can be provided for you when the merchant already has your profile available based on you walking into their store or place of business. When applied to business purchases, imagine the transportation company being able to pick up the right packages on your behalf and then you knowing the receiver has them through an electronic commerce system in another location half way around the world.

5. And what about cheques? They will be phased-out, but at a very slow rate in the United States. Old habits die hard and although there are very few remaining benefits of doing business by cheque, the habits already formed through the generations of people and companies will take time to change.

  THE CHAIRMAN'S CORNER

The New Way to Train

Over the last few years there has been a lot of discussion around new training techniques and trends as technology changes. Training itself has been around forever. Many of the industries practitioners tend to focus on the delivery media and its changes, while others focus on process and others on psychology. There are a number of trends that are important for you to apply to the training you design and deliver as part of your change programs, process reengineering or technology implementation work. Some of these trends include: individualized learning, remote-based or online training, and going hand in hand with the trend to move away from live instruction, is the much needed, but slowly improving trend of delivering training in bite-sized, as-you-need-it pieces. The trends are interesting and important for organizations to consider as they lay the groundwork for setting up effective training teams and specific training design projects.
