RECAP FROM EASTERN EUROPE EVENTS

In September, Ukraine was at the center of Central/Eastern European IT outsourcing, as it organized professionals from 18 countries of Central and Eastern Europe and other regions of the world for the CEE Outsourcing Summit 2007. More than 150 participants, amongst which were well known experts in IT outsourcing, analysts of leading research companies, executives of advanced companies from Europe and the United States and national IT associations of the CEE Region, convened to discuss contemporary trends of the regional IT industry.

During this summit, Mr. Thomas Nash, President of Xalles Limited, presented his International Marketing Seminar in the first plenary session of the opening day of the event. Commenting on Mr. Nash’s presentation, organizer of the summit, Alexey Kozhenkin, Managing Director of IT Ukraine, commented, “Tom Nash’s presentation on international marketing strategy submitted to the CEE Outsourcing Summit in Kiev, Ukraine, was one of the highlights of the first Plenary Session day of this important regional event. Tom gave his profound insight to factors contributing to success in marketing IT products and services worldwide, and shared with his international audience his opinion of the current situation on the world IT market, specifically, on that of CEE. Being an experienced speaker, Tom created a very comfortable environment for his listeners, and a serious market analysis was delivered.”

During this trip, Xalles also met with over 30 companies from the Baltics and Central and Eastern Europe, including firms from countries such as Ukraine, Turkey, Russia, Switzerland, Estonia, Lithuania, Latvia and Belarus. Xalles is continuing talks with some potential partners and clients and working on establishing a presence in this region in the near future.

GUIDING YOU TO SAFETY

Sunfor

Safety and security are some of the main issues today, concerning citizens of all countries. Especially after the September 11, 2001 attacks in New York City, saving lives in events of emergency is on the list of priorities for all global governments. In this issue we find it appropriate to feature Sichuan Sunfor Light Co., Ltd. (“Sunfor”), a diversified technology and manufacturing company located in Chengdu, China that offers products that help saves lives.

Sunfor is the leader in photoluminescent material (PLM) in China and serves customers worldwide, offering specialty photoluminescent pigments and luminescent products such as paints and signs. Sunfor is also engaged in the R&D of rare earth resources, such as PDP fluorescent powder and LED fluorescent pigments.

Sunfor’s main products include the Photoluminescent Pigment; a newly developed hi-tech product made from alkaline earth aluminates and rare earth oxides. After the excitation of any visible lights it can glow in the dark for more than 40 hours.

Sunfor’s Photoluminescent Safety Signs are also another of the company’s successful products, made of photoluminescent materials that are specially designed to help people evacuate more rapidly from buildings or other public places in case of an emergency situation. The signs can glow in the dark continuously for more than 12 hours after absorbing various visible light sources for 5-10 minutes. They are free from radioactive substances, non-toxic and cost effective, which could be an ideal alternative for the traditional luminescent signs.

In addition, Sunfor offers Solar Energy Lamps, which have many unique characteristics such as energy-saving, high efficiency and stable and intellectualized operation. Combined with the advanced LED chip and the patented heat dispersing design and fluorescent pigment, the solar energy lamps have a high lighting intensity and long life span. They absorb sunlight in day and automatically release light in darkness. The lamps can also be used as a common lighting lamp in daily life, and need only 20% electricity consumption of common lamps, which meets people’s needs for saving energy.

The company has already successfully provided its products and services to the Shenzhen subway system and the Chongqing Light Railway. Sunfor has PLM production capabilities and holds several patents on the manufacturing processes. Sunfor has more than ten years experience in developing, manufacturing and using pigments. Its unique resources, technical invention patent, commitment to continual product innovation and market knowledge all contribute to the competency you can expect from a global player.

Sunfor has a core competence in manufacturing, quality control and other technical skills. However, in order to enter the international markets, Sunfor sees the missing gap between its supply side and overseas demand. As a result, Sunfor has decided to leverage Xalles’ business strategy expertise, international marketing experience and overseas connections to make inroads into unfamiliar foreign territories.

Xalles will assist Sunfor with marketing, distribution and financial supply chain management of its rare earth photoluminescent material and luminescent products including: Luminescent Powders and Plastic Granules; Luminescent Products; Luminescent Signs and Plates; and other newly developed products. Xalles will specifically provide assistance in market research and analysis, pricing strategy, competitor research, customer profiling, sales kit development, sample preparation, channel development, PLM certification and overall sales & marketing guidance for the Singapore market initially, with additional expansion opportunities envisioned. Xalles staff from Singapore and China are managing this project.

LEVERAGING YOUR BUSINESS VALUES AND CORPORATE CULTURE

Most corporations will claim to have a list of business values and many will say that it is those values that drive the corporation. The fact is that all corporations are made up of groups of people and it is the group values which drive the actions of the company. Below are some tips that management teams should follow to leverage the strength of the intrinsic corporate culture and avoid the pitfalls of having or promoting the wrong business values.

1. Communicating the shared vision

All employees need to know the vision and values of the company and be reminded of them through words and actions. Posters, slogans and programs are all great. Speeches from the executives are even better. But employees will respond most to the actions of the management team and their fellow employees more than any other examples.

2. Consistency

Too many organizations will promote one thing in slogans but in fact do the exact opposite. You have seen this all too often. A corporation says it values its people, yet when you deal with that corporation, its customer service staff is very unhappy. The corporation says it’s an efficient company, yet the employees deal with broken processes on a daily basis. Management needs to walk the talk but more importantly, the company needs to understand its real strengths and promote its strengths, not just the slogans created by another company.

3. Understand how corporate culture is created

As an executive, you can have a strong influence over the direction that the corporate culture goes, but you cannot control it. The corporate culture in any small or large organization is not merely defined by the leader but grows from within the organization. From all corners and all departments, all people develop your company’s culture. Be in tune with this more informal creation process and you will be in a better position to help shape it.

4. Use the uniqueness to your advantage as a company

No two corporations are alike, despite similar organization charts, product lines and competitive strategies. Any two corporations are different because the people are different. The subtleties often make a huge difference. Be proud of your uniqueness. Promote internally and externally and make it part of the reason why others should want to do business with your organization.

Your business values and corporate culture are affecting your company’s ability to succeed in this competitive environment. Learn what it is, how it is developed in your organization, and how to promote the right strengths that your organization has already developed from within. This is the road to being able to understand your company at a new level of depth. This is the road to being able to effectively lead and manage your company. This is the road to success.

A GOOD YEAR COMES TO AN END

The staff at Xalles were very busy with many new projects and ventures this year. 2007 was also a year of expansion for the company.

Early in the year we opened up our first office in Africa, located in the city of Accra, Ghana with plans to help develop the ICT and outsourcing industry in the country. Specifically, Xalles has partnered with various organizations in Ghana to help develop and promote a new technology park that will be opening soon in the city of Accra. The Ghana Cyber City will make available infrastructure facilities to growing technology firms, both domestic and foreign, to provide business process outsourcing, call centers and other products for markets in the United States, Africa and other emerging economies.

Later in the year, we opened our first office in Asia, in the city of Shenzhen, in the People’s Republic of China. Our core activities in the region consist of assisting local firms who possess innovative products and services with competitive prices and offerings to enter the major global markets as well as provide financial supply chain consulting for payment solution providers.

The year has been a successful one and has concluded with a new corporate structure that gives us the ability to expand into new geographies and services in 2008. Look for more news in the near future about our new directions!

Let me now take this opportunity to wish all of our staff, clients, partners, and friends and family a wonderful and safe holiday season.

See you next year.

TWN.

Thomas W. Nash is President of Xalles Limited, with staff in 12 countries.
