Sunfor Photoluminescent Safety Technology

Photoluminescent is the latest safety technology that has gained fast worldwide attention as a cost effective solution for reliable egress markings, providing consistent and immediate illumination following a power failure due to fires or terrorist attacks. This new technology, proven to save lives during emergency evacuation situations, has been made mandatory in many countries around the world including Singapore. Recent changes to the Singapore Fire Code, specifically Chapter 2.10.3, mandates that photoluminescent evacuation markings be incorporated in the design of safety and evacuation routes in Singapore buildings.

How does photoluminescent technology work? Photoluminescent material absorb and store energy from normal ambient light or UV light sources, then in the darkness, release this energy in the form of light. As such, they offer these benefits:

  • no electricity or batteries required
  • lower installation costs (no re-wiring)
  • no operating costs (no electricity or batteries)
  • environmentally friendly

Sunfor’s photoluminescent pigment only requires 5 to 10 minutes of ambient light in order to glow for 40 hours.
